State of Georgia

In 1798 the state legislature adopted the current seal.  It is three pillars supported by an arch.  Each pillar symbolizes the each of the three branches of state government.  A solider stands with a drawn sword defending the constitution, whose principles are wisdom, justice and moderation.

State Bird - Brown Thrasher

State Song - "Georgia on My Mind"

We have a new governor - Sunny Perdue.  He is the first Republic Governor since reconstruction.  After years of democratic rule, the sun is rising over Georgia.  Sunny made a speech recently and quoted another famous Georgian "Free at last, Free at last - thank God I'm Free at last."

Many people have heard about the recent flurry of State flags.  Our old flag, which was in response to civil right movement - the state adobted a new flag in 1956.  This flag contained the battle flag of the confedercy, which is affectionly called the stars and bars.
